About Great Guana Cay

You don't stop laughing because you grow old.
You grow old because you stop laughing.

Under the Fig Tree

The town square of Great Guana Cay is located at the Fig Tree. The primary mode of transportation on the island is a golf cart.  Bamboo Cabana is in the heart of the settlement and close to everything, so that guests can walk, ride bicycles, or rent a cart.  Donna’s Golf Cart Rentals has several models to choose from. Donna has email and will take your reservation for a cart.   There are also 2 bicycles at Bamboo Cabana for guests who want to pedal around the island.

Guana Harbor Grocery Store is a well stocked market.  Sylvan and Ashley are the local proprietors.  If they don’t have it here, you probably don’t need it.

Don’t expect to find gambling on Guana Cay.  One of the local ‘hot spots’ is Nipper’s Beach Bar and Grill.  Nipper’s is world famous for their Sunday afternoon Pig Roasts.  Each Sunday, vacationers and locals alike, come from the neighboring islands for a great beach party with live island music. There is nothing better than Friday night at Nippers!

Art Cafe

Another fun spot is Guana Beach Resort home of Sunset Bar and Grill also know as Grabbers.  They feature exactly what you might think, great sunsets, great food, and great drinks.  Sunset Bar and Grill also hosts the weekly Wednesday Night Potluck Dinner.  Plan on it.  It’s a great time and you will meet lots of nice people.  Sunset Bar and Grill provides the plates and utensils; just bring a dish to share. Don’t leave the island without trying the “Guana Grabber”, the signature at Sunset Bar and Grill.

Orchid Bay Marina and Restaurant has a lovely waterfront setting for upscale dining.  The marina has slips for rent as well as a small gift store, a laundromat, and fuel.

The best way to stay informed on Great Guana Cay is to listen to the “Cruisers Net” each morning at 8:15 am on channel 68 on your VHF radio. There is a comprehensive weather report from Barometer Bob as well as interesting and informative announcements.  Local residents use the VHF radio like a telephone.  There is a VHF radio base station set up in Bamboo Cabana.

Bluewater Grill   is another fine dining establishment.  It’s a beautiful waterfront setting and the food is great.

If you looking for lighter fare, Art Café  and Bakery has amazing baked goods along with sandwiches, pizza, and ice cream.  They also serve breakfast.

Miss Luv’s Kitchen proclaims to be the “bess on the island”.  Dolores serves authentic Bahamian food. She has a great take out service and a few tables on the porch for those who choose to dine al fresco.

Can’t live without your laptop?  There are several HOT SPOTS on Great Guana Cay.  You can sit under the Fig Tree to surf the internet or go to Nippers to check your email.  Wireless signals are also available at Arts Café, Orchid Bay, Dolphin Beach Resort and several other locations around Guana Cay.

You will find Milo at his vegetable stand everyday, selling the veggies he grows on the island and fresh fish. He also has local crafts and T-shirts.  Milo’s coconut babies are adorable.

The post office is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday  from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  If you want to send postcards home, check the days and hours of operation when you arrive, because they are subject to change.

Troy and Maria own and operate Dive Guana.  They arrange dive and snorkel trips as well as sightseeing trips to the neighboring islands.  They also have boats, bicycles, and underwater cameras for rent. Troy is active in the Guana Fire and Rescue Team.  Maria is active in the Save Guana Reef activities.  They have 2 beautiful children.
